Head of the EuroEyes Center
- Assistant physician in internal medicine; specialty training in ophthalmology at the University Eye Clinic Heidelberg; subsequently assistant and senior physician at the University Eye Clinic Mainz
- 1982 Habilitation (postdoctoral lecturing qualification) in ophthalmology
- Since 1982, an ophthalmologist in private practice in Munich; Head of the attending physicians' ophthalmology department at the Red Cross Hospital
- 1987 Founded the annual meeting of German ophthalmic surgeons
- 1988 Appointed Extraordinary Professor (außerplanmäßiger Professor) of Ophthalmology at the University of Mainz
- 1991 Established a corneal transplant eye bank in Munich
- 1996 Founded the laser eye center "Eye Clinic Munich®"
- 1997 Appointed Extraordinary Professor at the Medical Faculty of the Technical University of Munich
- 1997 Founding member of VSDAR (Association of Specialized Clinics in Germany for Laser and Refractive Eye Surgery)
- 1998 – 2000 President, European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons (ESCRS)
- 1999 Awarded the title "Pioneer of Refractive Surgery" (USA)
- Since 2002, President of the Commission for Refractive Surgery (KRC) of the Professional Association of Ophthalmologists (BVA) and the German Ophthalmological Society (DOG)
- Since 2006, President, VSDAR
